Bituminous Roadways, Inc. has hired Shelly Martin as their Safety Director/Human Resources Manager.


Graham Penn-Co Construction Inc. has a new name! They are now Graham Construction Services, Inc. Address, phone and fax remain the same. They are now located in Suite #1.


Gene Schmidgall, Hancock Concrete, has retired after 60+ years in the precast industry. Gene held several jobs and titles while at Hancock Concrete, from digging ditches to running crane to install pipe to dispatching trucks to jobsites and than to the administrative duties of Vice President, President and finally, Chief Executive Officer. Congratulations from AGC, and job well done!


Cemstone Products Co. promoted Jason Fritz to the position of Sales Manager, Cemstone Contractor Supply (CCS).


Construction Results Corporation has recently hired Mike Luurtsema as Estimator and Project Manager. His experience is in Commercial Renovation Projects and Commercial Building Additions.


Congratulations to Kendall Griffith, Mortenson Construction. He was named to Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal's "Forty Under Forty" list.


Helmuth & Johnson hired attorneys Kurt Mitchell and Ryan Wartick, practicing in construction law.


WSB & Associates Inc. hired Brian Bourassa as senior project manager - business development.


Gretchen Landini and Paul Schroeder of Westwood Professional Servicews Inc. became Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professionals through the U.S. Green Building Council. 


Ivy Chang – editor of Construction Bulletin, – was named Boger Award Runner Up for her ongoing series covering the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis. From the first article immediately following the Minnesota bridge disaster, Chang has kept readers informed about the politics as well as the reconstruction of the I-35 Bridge. She will receive her prestigious award at the CWA (Construction Writers Association) annual meeting in May in Alexandria, Va.

 


An AGC of Minnesota member company since 1988, KGM Contractors, Inc. has changed membership status from Specialty Contractor to General Contractor. KGM is a second-generation heavy/highway grading contractor based in Angora, MN.

James Duffy O'Connor has been appointed to serve on the National Contract Documents Committee and the Construction Risk Management Committee for the Associated General Contractors of America. O'Connor is a partner at Maslon Edelman Borman & Brand, LLP. He brings more than 28 years of law experience, and his practice is focused exclusively on construction and construction insurance related matters.

Carl McKee has been hired as an estimator and project manager for Construction Results Corp.


Brent Johnson has been hired by Ironwood Companies, Inc. as a senior project manager. He is currently working on projects that involve sitework and mass grading as well as environmental remediation. Brent has a degree in construction management from NDSU and has been in the construction industry for over 15 years. 

VEIT Companies signed a letter of intent to acquire Layne Minnesota Co., a Minneapolis-based company specializing in the installation of drilled piers/caissons foundations for buildings, bridges and other structures.

 Scaffold Service, Inc. is pleased to announce that they have brought their estimating, design and union labor services back in house. By doing so, they will be able to offer a much more streamlined process to their valued customers, and be able to directly control the costs of the services offered to customers. Lee Fealy is again working directly for Scaffold Service, Inc. as project manager and chief estimator. Lee brings 25 years of scaffold industry experience.

Craig Sulentic of  Egan Company retired as president and CEO. He is succeeded by Jim Malecha.

AGC of America recently announced that Ames Construction received the Willis 2nd place Safety Excellence Award in the Heavy Division, 700,001 to 1 million work hours. PCL Construction Services also received an award in the Heavy Division, over 1 million hours. Ames Construction received their award through AGC of Arizona and PCL Construction Services received their award through AGC of Colorado.

Egan Company annnounced that Denny Lambert has been hired as vice president of sales and marketing.

Howard R. Green Company has hired Ross Harris as a project manager at its St. Paul office. He will specialize in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) laws, regulations and compliance requirements.

Mortenson Construction was named "2008 Corporate Plan Sponsor of the Year" by Plansponsor magazine. Plansponsor is a publication that recognizes excellence in corporate-sponsored profit-sharing and retirement savings plans.

Professional Service Industries, Inc. appointed Mike Tjaden to principal consults for a portion of its Environment Site Assessment services.

The Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association (MC&MCA) has named their officers and directors for 2008-2009. AGC of Minnesota members are: Todd Frantz, Donald R. Frantz Concrete Construction Inc. (President); Rick Morris, BOR-SON Construction (President-Elect); Jack Tucci, Construction Midwest (Secretary); Karen Stanley, Stellar Concrete & Masonry (Treasurer); Lisa Kline, Adolfson & Peterson Construction (General Contractors); Eric Olson, Kraus-Anderson Construction (General Contractors); Frank Grazzini, Carciofini Company (Past President); Tim Miller, Advanced Masonry Restoration (Masonry & Concrete Contractors); and Rachel Seykora, Cemstone Products Co. (Associates). 

Gunderson Construction and McGough Construction were recently honored by the American Subcontractors Association of Minnesota (ASA-MN).   Gunderson Construction won the 2007 "T.O.P.S." award in the "under $150 million" contractor category. McGough Construction won in the "over $150 million" category.

Top electrical contractors ranked in the February 8, 2008 issue of Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal are: Hunt Electric Corp. (1); Parsons Electric (2), Egan Company (3); and OlympiaTech Electric (14).

Swanson & Youngdale Inc. was ranked first in the January 11, 2008 list of contract painters.


Gencon-Graus Construction announced a new management team as part of its corporate restructuring: Dan Schmidt, CEO; Bob DeGezelle, president of operations; Greg White, senior superintendent and Gerald Valento, senior project manager.
PCL Construction Services has recently completed a new 32,00 sf manufacturing plant for Bergquist Company in Brandon, South Dakota.
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is pleased to announce that Sarah Stai, coordinator of sustainable development services, attained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council. 
Fabcon Inc. has hired W. Alan Krane as its marketing director.
Steve Fritz, Adolfson & Peterson Construction was named vice president of field operations in the Midwest region.
Kraus-Anderson Construction Company announced Al Gerhardt as their new chief operation officer. K-A also announced the promotion of Mark Coudron to senior vice president of K-A's Minneapolis Business Group. Craig Francois will replace Coudron as director of operations of the Minneapolis Office.  
VEIT announced the additional of five new employees. Joyce Brown (human resources compliance coordinator), Kevin Brenny (controller), Scott Lodico (project manager/estimator; demolition division), Nathan Iverson (project manager/estimator, foundation division) and Tom Libbesmeier (estimator, earthwork division).
Frank Grazzini, Carciofini Company was elected President of the Minneapolis Builders Exchange. Other AGC of Minnesota members serving on the Minneapolis Builders Exchange Board of Directors are: Russ Reger, VEIT; David Walock, BOR-SON Construction; and Chuck Anderson, Crawford Merz Anderson Construction
Ryan Cos. USA Inc. received a Design-Build Merit Award from the Design Build Institute of America for their Midtown Exchange project.  
Congratulations to Grazzini Brothers & Company named as the first company to earn the Accredited Natural Stone Commercial B Contractor designation under the Marble Institute of America's accreditation program.  
Bituminous Roadways Inc. has been recognized by Metro Transit for putting in many hours of extra work recently to build a critical new park-and-ride lot to cope with the Interstate 35W bridge collapse. Metro Transit General Manager Brian Lambs says Bituminous Roadways "kept its plant open beyond its scheduled closing and brought on extra staff to make the asphalt (for the park-and-ride lot). We were able to complete the park-and-ride project just one day before the December 1 snowfall thanks to the commitment of Bituminous Roadways and (its) staff," he said, praising the company for "demonstrating corporate citizenship at a time of community need."
The St. Paul Builders Exchange announced their 2008 officers and directors, among them are several AGC of Minnesota members. Officers are: Andy Anderson, St. Paul Linoleum & Carpet Co., Inc., president and Dan Molin, Molin Concrete Products Co., vice president. Directors are: Travis Hoff, Harris Companies; Mike Nadeau, Nadeau Excavating, Inc.; Robert Dew, Dew Corporation; and Patrick Forliti, Olympic Wall Systems, Inc. 
Effective January 1, 2008, Northstar Materials, Inc. is transitioning to the name Knife River Materials.
PCL Construction Services, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of two projects: a new food application facility at Cargill's Parker's Lake building and the completion of the new Little Six Casino for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC).
Clete Luartes has joined the staff of Adjustable Joist Company. He has over 20 years experience in the commercial concrete industry.
