Over 60 Organizations Demand Bonding Bill in 2020

A letter to Governor Walz and legislative leaders requesting passage of a capital bonding bill from organizations that represent hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans was released today. The letter was signed by over 60 Minnesota organizations from across the state representing local governments, labor, business, engineers, architects, contractors, transit systems, rail advocates, environmental groups and other community organizations.

Noting that Minnesota’s economy is struggling to recover from COVID-19 and local governments are reeling from unexpected costs and revenue cuts, organizations are urging the state to do its job and invest in needed infrastructure improvements that will make Minnesota safer, improve economic competitiveness, and create needed jobs.

The authors of the letter point out that the capital bonding bill has been negotiated and vetted for months. Design and construction projects that communities desperately need are ready to go and there has never been a time when an investment is more needed in our workers and businesses than right now.

The organizations respectfully ask that legislators and the governor come together and do the work of the 2020 Legislative Session – passing a capital bonding bill. While everyone understands that an election is coming in November, lawmakers need to keep working throughout the month of September until the job is done and a bill is passed and signed into law. Minnesota businesses, workers, families, and communities are depending on passage of this critical legislation.
