WIC Week 2026: Maddie Hopkins

Maddie Hopkins

Bricklayers Local 1
ABOUT MADDIE:

My introduction to the world of union bricklaying at first was as a partner to a member. We went to family events together, and I got to know more about the trade. Eventually I learned that there were women in the trades and started to think of it as a possibility for me, so i asked more questions, got more information, and signed up for a pre-job. With the support of my amazing partner, I was able to complete it and start working in the field.

Being a bricklayer has been great for me because I’ve always had a strong work ethic and this was a way for me to apply my work ethic in a way that didn’t force me to smile or sell to customers. I can get up on time every day, work on my craft and help my crew, make a good living, and have my weekends off. I also enjoy the diversity of people you work as a bricklayer; people come from all walks of life and it is part of what makes the job fun.
