Rhiannon Klein
Project Manager
Lakehead Constructors, Inc.
ABOUT Rhiannon:
I toured Iron Range Engineering during my sophomore year of college after my high school science teacher convinced me to pursue a career where I could use my strong math and science skills. I signed up for classes the same day I toured the campus. During my time at IRE I was drawn to Project Management and LEAN courses. After graduating, I applied for a project engineer position at Lakehead Constructors, Inc. I wasn’t necessarily the most qualified for the position, but they took a chance on me. Throughout the course of this project, I was lucky enough to learn about multiple different aspects of construction from some amazing mentors. Now, 8 years later, I’m in a Project Management role.
The best part about working in the construction industry is never having to do the same thing twice. We are lucky enough to experience different industries and work on multiple projects without having to jump from job to job. I love the variety and ability to experience new things.
As a woman in a male-dominated field, I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome. My male counterparts, no matter their experience, exhibit confidence in everything they do. I have been blessed with the best mentor over the past few years who has helped me to increase my confidence by allowing me to take on teaching roles within our department. This opportunity, coupled with the support of the women I’ve met in the construction industry through NAWIC, has reinforced that women do have a place in this field.
