8:30 am Economic Outlook: Resurgence or Recession?

Construction activity appears to be strengthening even as talk of recession grows. What are the implications of a slowdown or recession for construction employment, wages, and material costs? What types of projects are most vulnerable or most protected from a slowing economy? AGC’s chief economist, Ken Simonson, will review the latest evidence and offer his fearless forecast for construction nationally and in Minnesota.
9:30 am The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act – What You Need to Know
Julia Douglass and Hugh Brown | Fabyanske, Westra, Hart & Thomson, P.A.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) does more than just pump $550 billion of funding into new infrastructure projects. It also alters several regulations applicable to federally funded construction projects that contractors need to keep in mind. This program will examine the IIJA’s effects on P3 projects, environmental review, Buy America requirements, Davis Bacon requirements and other implications of the Act. The Act is also anticipated to increase inflationary pressures on construction materials and labor, and this program will offer some insights on how to handle the price increases that result.
