WIC Week 2023: Chantra Love

Chantra Love

Carpenters local 322

ABOUT Chantra:

My name is Chantra Love. I’m a 4th year Carpenter Apprentice. Currently I’m working for Capital Wood Products. Faith and curiosity got me into the trades. I always had a interest in infrastructure and carpentry, but never pictured myself doing it. I have no connections with anyone in the field and I was never introduced to it. It wasn’t until I went to Summit to get more information about their IT program (looking for a more lucrative job, as I was working at a call center at the time) and ended up being more inclined to try the carpentry classes. While attending Summit I had a chance to tour the Carpenters Union. After the tour I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Shortly after competing the program, I was sponsored into the Union working for Lunda Construction on the Southwest LRT project.

I love being a carpenter. I’ve learned so much and still continue to learn. For the first time in my life, I take pride and enjoy what I am doing. I love that I am being an example to my daughter to take chances and try something new. I’ve made so many meaningful connections. I love that I gained skills that no one can take from me and what I can earn is almost limitless. Even without a college degree, I have the ability to grow. Becoming a carpenter was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I encourage others, especially women to join. The sooner, the better.
