ABOUT lizzie:
My name is Lizzie Gelbmann and I'm a 1st year apprentice in the Local 633 as a cement mason. Before I started this journey in the trades, I had no real career ambitions and didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life. Then one day while scrolling through my emails, I came across a flyer advertising a 5 week training program encouraging women and minorities to get into the trades. I didn't think much of it at first but decided it wouldn't hurt to apply and see what happened. I believe that I made one of the best decisions of my life.
I never pictured myself ever being able to make it in the trades, let alone as a concrete finisher, but I love it and have never felt more accomplished. Not only have I grown physically, but also mentally and emotionally as well. To be able to be passionate about your career is something I feel like a lot of people won’t be able to experience. I am surrounded by many amazing fellow tradesmen and tradeswomen, as well as mentors and hopefully one day I will be able to be the same to another aspiring apprentice.
